REAR EXTENSIONS

Traditional rear extensions tended to be dead boring and usually made the house a bit darker in the middle because the openings into the extension were rarely large enough and you had big beams that blocked the light.
 

Modern rear extensions are a different kettle of fish because at AVONPRESS we always try to incorporate design elements that will create exceptional living space as well as adding the most value.

When planning a rear extension to a terraced property you have to consider the impact on the ground floor. What happens to the old kitchen for example? Do you leave it there or expand it into one side of the new extension?  Many people do.

Another consideration if you have a 1930's terrace property is the entrance to the kitchen and whether you want to keep a separate front reception. Based on customer preferences most of our clients tend to choose keeping a separate front reception. The thinking behind it is that it is nice to escape the open space at the end of the day to go to a nicely furnished living space.
 

If you still have the wall between the old kitchen and the dining room that should come out, so you are left with an open plan dining kitchen and family room. Designed well with a decent patio and garden this will be a real winner and add excellent living space whilst adding load of value.
